• Pure + Simple At The Green Living Show

“[Climate Change] is big, it’s urgent and it’s widely misunderstood.” – Jonathan Garo Koomey

“Our future is choice, not fate.” – Amoury Lovins

Spring has finally arrived and the Green Living Show gives us all a fresh opportunity to do our part in safeguarding human existence on Planet Earth. The extreme weather we experienced in recent years and that seen on world news has woken up those of us who are sustainability supporters. We at Pure + simple realize that we need to do more than deliver our promise of “Beautiful Skin Naturally” by being more active than just recycling, reusing, and reducing.

Last year when carbon levels reached 400 PPM and there was barely a mention in the media, we joined Toronto350.org to put on a climate change awareness event “Do the Math.” It was a very successful screening of 350.org’s movies with speakers Elizabeth May from the Green Party and Ecoholic Adria Vasil. We were delighted that many of the audience members were our clients.

But we feel like there is more to do. While we are honoured to have been one of three finalists in the Women Entrepreneur Awards for Sustainability twice, we realize that it is no longer enough. We need to further our mission to be sustainable by spreading the message to a larger audience – and the Green Living Show is just the place to do it.

Dedicated to presenting simple ways to live a sustainable life, The Green Living Show is a great way to further our desire to inform. We have invited Alanna Mitchell to speak in our place about her experience in writing Sea Sick, her award-winning book on the state of the world’s oceans. She has just finished a successful run in Toronto and Montreal of her one-woman play based on the book and is the ideal candidate to relay the scientific facts of climate change in an inspiring and informative way. We expect no less from her seminar on Saturday April 26th 2014 at 2:00 pm. For those who miss the seminar, you can purchase her book at our booth (#812) or go online at amazon.ca. It is available in physical and e-book formats.

Of course, our own Kristen Ma will be speaking as well, focusing on Ayurveda and skincare. Ayurveda is a holistic modality originally from Eastern India that stresses the relationship between all things. This way of thinking emphasizes the idea that we must preserve the environment in order to preserve our own well-being and is a message that we truly believe in at Pure + simple. Look out for Kristen’s talk on Friday April 25th 2014 at 5:00 pm.
