Beauty Chat With Kriss Grcic, Tcm Practitioner
This week, we’re so excited to introduce Kriss Grcic, Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner! Kriss is a team member at our Wellness Centre in Yorkville, specializing in Acupuncture services. We couldn’t wait to pick her brain and learn more about her!
What led you along the wonderful path to Chinese Medicine?
I’ve always been interested in holistic healing and body work but it was the mind and body connection that really drew me to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Pain and disease can manifest in a number of ways relating to many of our body systems including immune, endocrine function to emotional state.
As an acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, what concerns do you most often address? Are there more than one tool you use during a single treatment session?
I treat a lot of pain and injury which can be either acute or chronic. For best results I find hands-on bodywork is necessary along with cupping to complement the acupuncture session. Other areas of concern I see are for reproductive & menstrual disorders. Along with acupuncture, I find Chinese herbs work very well for this. In addition, I’ve had clinical success with migraine treatment and various skin disorders such as cystic acne.
What do you love most about your profession?
Often times clients come in when all other forms of treatment have failed. TCM can provide relief and offer explanation to what conventional medicine may find idiopathic. In Chinese Medicine there is a unique way of questioning and diagnosing. Although there are new contemporary methods and Westernized diseases virtually TCM has not been altered in thousands of years. Regardless how complex it is, it can also be quite simplified. Find balance; the yin with the yang. I love that.
How do you personally define wellness and beauty?
I suppose it has to do with preservation but not to the extent that our quality of life suffers because if it. I have an 80-20 mentality. We do our best most of the time. Don’t beat yourself up if you fall asleep after a fun night without washing your make up… it’s not the end of the world. Our lifestyle should include healthy choices, not a strict to-do list. Set realistic goals and take the steps to carve them into a routine. Find what makes you happy… now that’s beautiful!
What is your favourite Pure + simple product?
I have a few… they range from the everyday use of the Sensitive Cleansing Milk for sensitive skin to my weekly Purifying French Clay Mask and then it’s Comforting Camellia Oil to the rescue from the Holistic Vanity Rosacea Care line.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I truly love what I do. With the human body there are always new areas to explore. The learning never stops. I like fixing things but sometimes it can be a journey and value the time my clients put into their health. I do believe they are the ones who do the work; I just help facilitate and give them the tools.
