• A Month Of Love: Mad For Diy Masks

You’ve made a beautiful Valentine’s meal for your loved one, now it’s time to cook up a beautifying treat for your skin! We at Pure + simple are known for using pure ingredients in our products that are good enough to eat, but lately we’ve been even more obsessed with mixing our own masks with ingredients straight from our kitchen cupboards. From common breakfast staples like oatmeal and yoghurt to exotic ingredients such as manuka honey and matcha, our pantries hold many unsuspecting beauty ingredients that are both cost effective and powerful. So, in honour of February – the month of love – we want to share some of our favourite skin-loving recipes with you!

    1. The Breakfast Mask

For this nurturing + moisturizing recipe, you will need: 1 tablespoon oat flour, 1 tablespoon almond or olive oil, ½ a mashed banana, 1 tablespoon honey, ½ teaspoon turmeric (optional).

This Breakfast Mask’s delectable smell is sure to wake you up! The combo of soothing oat flour, enzyme-rich banana, and antibacterial honey is the perfect nourishment for our body and skin. The optional turmeric adds an anti-inflammatory touch, making it the perfect mask for those with dry, sensitive, and reactive skin. Who says you shouldn’t play with your food?

Directions: Combine all ingredients and apply to face. Resist the urge to eat it! Leave it on your skin for 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

    2. Meditative Cucumber Mask

For this soothing + hydrating recipe, you will need: Pure + simple Calming Cucumber Mask, Holistic Vanity White Tea Meditation Mask.

Combining two of our most calming and cooling products, this zen mask is our go-to recipe for stress relief, especially after a long day. The Calming Cucumber Mask works to boost skin moisture and calm facial redness, while the White Tea Meditation Mask adds a creamy and grounding touch. We love pairing this soothing treatment with yoga to really help balance our mind and body.

Directions: Mix a 1:1 portion of both masks and apply to face. Leave on for 20 minutes for softer skin!

    3. Matcha Magic Mask

For this anti-aging recipe, you will need: 1 tablespoon chickpea powder, 1 teaspoon organic matcha (green tea) powder, ½ teaspoon raw organic coconut oil, water.

This Matcha Magic Mask is very pure and simple! But don’t let its simplicity fool you: this concoction is packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory goodness. Matcha, a finely ground, unfermented form of green tea, gives you up to 10 times the antioxidants compared to regular green tea and is high in radiance-boosting properties. Enjoy this mask to reveal a brighter complexion!

Directions: Combine ingredients and apply to face. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

    4. Mighty Manuka Mask

For this detoxifying + moisturizing recipe, you will need: Pure + simple Organic Vanilla Cleansing Powder, organic plain yoghurt, manuka honey.

There’s nothing quite like a versatile mask recipe that lets you have full control. This is one of them! With the Organic Vanilla Cleansing Powder base, you have the option of mixing it with a cleanser, toner, or even edible ingredients. This recipe uses organic plain yoghurt and manuka honey to create a deluxe purifying yet nourishing treatment. Kick back and relax as the naturally occurring lactic acid in yoghurt gently exfoliates your skin and strengthens your skin’s immune function while the potent antibacterial properties of manuka honey prevent future breakouts and help current ones heal faster!

Directions: Combine ingredients to desired consistency and apply to face. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

Pure + simple tip: Boost the detoxifying and purifying power of any of the above masks by mixing in a touch of green clay powder. Or, for a more convenient option, add a dollop of our Pure + simple Purifying French Clay Mask!
